What is Leptospirosis?
Leptospirosis is a zoonotic disease, meaning it can be spread from animals to people. It is a highly contagious bacterial infection that is transmitted through the urine of an infected animal. Pets that come into contact with infected urine, urine-contaminated soil, water, food or bedding are at risk. Dogs can be infected by exposure of Lepto to the mucous membranes or an unhealed break in the skin. Wild animals, farm animals, rodents, sea lions and other dogs are common carriers.
If your dog has not been vaccinated with the Leptospirosis vaccine, visit a PetVet clinic location to start protecting him or her right away.
